It’s going to swing! We’re taking you on a journey into the colourful, gritty world of George Gershwin and Kurt Weill’s musicals. Welcome to New York! It’s autumn 1935 and the German composer is reunited with his American acolyte in the artistic emulation of Broadway. Between jazz, classical and popular melodies, the two men’s suitcases overflowed with creativity. This album is a plunge into the excitement of the great revues and life backstage in the theatres. Tenor Cyrille Dubois, pianist Michaël Ertzscheid and the ArteCombo wind quintet share the energy of a music as jubilant as it is legendary.
“Tenor Cyrille Dubois deserves unreserved praise. His well-articulated voice is clear, sensual and very personal in melodies that are at times upbeat and joyful, at times introspective and melancholy. Dubois’ voice adapts perfectly to each title with a breathtaking spontaneity and immediacy. […] And so this troupe – the ensemble musicians are no less excellent than Dubois – has created a sophisticated, exciting musical show that finds a direct path from the ear to the heart.“
Le nouvel album de Cyrille Dubois avec l’ensemble ArteCombo était à l’honneur sur les ondes de France Musique.
