Victor Metral

Victor began studying piano with Janine Collet, a pupil of Alfred Cortot, and then Sandra Chamoux at the Grenoble Conservatoire. He then entered the CNSM in Paris where he worked with Claire-Marie Le Guay, Bruno Rigutto, Anne Queffélec and Michel Dalberto. He holds three Masters degrees (Piano, Chamber Music and Vocal Accompaniment) and continues his studies at the CNSM in Paris in the Performer Diploma in the class of Michel Dalberto and in Vocal Accompaniment in the class of Anne Le Bozec and Emmanuel Olivier.

He perfected his skills with great artists such as Aldo Ciccolini, Alfred Brendel, Menahem Pressler, Jean-Claude Pennetier and Ivry Gitlis. On his way he met great artists with whom he regularly plays such as Renaud Capuçon, Florent Pujuila, Manuel Vioque-Judde, Lilian Meurin, the Elmire Quartet, Krzysztof Chorzelski of the Belcea Quartet, Mariella Haubs.

With Lilian Meurin, one of the most gifted euphonium players of his generation, he recorded a CD “Poèmes” released by the label Indésens.

He also has the chance to work with great composers such as Eric Tanguy, Philippe Hersant and Michel Petrossian.

He regularly appears on the radio as a soloist or in a trio, and has taken part in the “Classic Club” programme by Lionel Esparza and “Génération Jeunes Interprètes” by Gaëlle Le Gallic on France Musique. He is a laureate of the Steinway & Sons competition, the Madeleine de Valmalète competition, and received the First Grand Prize of the “FLAME” competition, “Young Soloists” in Paris. He won the First Prize of the 6th Teresa Llacuna Piano Competition and the Special Prize of the Jury. He received a special Liszt prize at the Claude Kahn competition in Paris.

In chamber music with the Metral Trio, he won the First Prize in the Joseph Haydn Competition in Vienna in 2017 as well as the two Special Prizes for the best interpretation of Haydn’s Trios and the Audience Prize, following which they were invited to perform in 2017 at the Konzerthaus and the Musikverein in Vienna and in 2018 at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

He has already performed in numerous festivals such as “Musée en musique” in Grenoble with Jean-François Zygel, at the Pablo Casals festival in Prades, at the Bel Air festival in Chambéry with Renaud Capuçon, at the Ballue festival in Brittany with the soloists of the Paris Opera, at the Fénétrange festival in Lorraine, at the “Jeunes Talents” festival in Paris, at the Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth in Belgium and for the Concerts de Poche. He has also played at the Auditorium of the Musée d’Orsay, the Philharmonie de Paris, the Festival de la Roque d’Anthéron and the Folles Journées de Nantes. His concerts have taken him to Vienna, Florence, Morocco, Vilnius and Germany.

Together with the Metral Trio, he recorded the two Mendelssohn Trios in 2018 for the Aparté label and since 2020 he has been part of the great family of la dolce volta where he records the complete Shostakovich and Weinberg for this label.
