The Austrian baritone Markus Werba has sung in some of the most prestigious houses: the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Teatro alla Scalla in Milan, the Vienna Staatsoper, the Berlin Staatsoper, Los Angeles Opera, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, the Opéra national de Lyon, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Sydney Opera, Beijing Opera, the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, as well as the festivals at Baden-Baden and Salzburg, the Gergiev Festival in Rotterdam and Tanglewood and Aspen in the United States. He has worked with such conductors as Claudio Abbado, Jeffrey Tate, Ivor Bolton, Kent Nagano, Riccardo Muti, James Conlon, James Levine, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Daniel Barenboim, Emmanuel Villaume, Iván Fischer, Daniele Gatti and Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, among others.

Markus Werba has sung the title role of Don Giovanni at the Staatsoper Vienna, Staatsoper Berlin, at the National Arts Center in Beijing; Papageno from The Magic Flute at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Royal Opera House in London and the Vienna Staatsoper, Beckmesser of Wagner’s Nuremberg Song Masters at the Salzburg Festival and the Staatsoper Berlin under the direction of Daniel Barenboim, Fierrabras ( Roland) by Schubert at the Salzburg Festival, The Masters Singers of Nuremberg, The Marriage of Figaro, The Magic Flute, Fierrabras, Ariane in Naxos (the master of music), The Dead City of Korngold and The Bat-Bane (Dr. Falke) by J. Strauss at the Scala in Milan, Don Alfonso de Così fan tutte by Mozart at the Teater an der Wien conducted by Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Marcello by Puccini’s La Bohème, and Harlequin by Ariane at Naxos by R. Strauss at the Royal Opera London House, Verdi’s Don Carlos (Rodrigo) and Le Nozze di Figaro at the New Tokyo National Theater, Don Carlos at the Dresden Semperoper, Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegine with the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra, Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor (Enrico) at the Teatro Comunale in Bologna and at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice where he also sang La Traviata. At the Grand Théâtre de Genève, he has performed Faust, Dr. Marianus and Pater Seraphicus in Scenes from Goethe’s Faust by Schumann and at the Barcelona Liceu : (Alphonse) of La Favorite de Donizetti.

Markus Werba gives many concerts and recitals. He has sung works by Mahler, Schumann, Schubert, Brahms and Liszt on the stages of Wigmore Hall in London, Berliner Philharmoniker, Musikverein in Vienna, Philharmonie and Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, Fenice in Venice.
