Nicolas Royez’s musical career has been marked by encounters with Alain Planès, Christian Ivaldi, Emmanuel Olivier, Roger Muraro and Eric Le Sage. After completing a Master’s degree at the Freiburg Hochschule, he was awarded the 2015 HSBC Prize at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, the 2020 Royaumont Foundation Prize and the 2021 Orsay-Royaumont Academy Prize. In 2010 he created the Musique au bois chamber music festival near Amiens. A loyal companion of Les Frivolités Parisiennes, he was involved in the creation of Les Bains Macabres, Opéra-Comique by G. Connesson; Normandie, Comédie musicale by P. Misrachi; in a programme dedicated to J. Cocteau: Un cocktail, des Cocteau; Le Frivol’s Club; Yes; Le Dieu Bleu… As a chamber musician, he recently premiered the cycle for voice and piano Un amour by Benoit Menut.
His discography reflects his artistic partnership with Les Frivolités Parisiennes, with whom he has recorded three albums (Frivol’s Club Live, Yes and Le Dieu Bleu), as well as his sought-after qualities as a chamber musician (three albums of melodies with singers Laurent Deleuil – Le travail du peintre, Alice Ferrière – Clara notre étoile, and Anne-Lise Polchlopek – Ombres chimériques, and a first album as a duo with Alexandre Collard – Aquarelles).
